The email channel lives under Settings → Email. Register the addresses your team sends from and receives on there — mail to these addresses automatically becomes a case in the inbox.
1. Add an address
- 1
Click "Add an address"
Type just the local part (e.g. "support") — the Spjallbox domain is selected automatically after it.
- 2
Set a display name (optional)
E.g. "Support Team" — this is the name customers see as the sender; the address itself is always shown too.
- 3
Click Add
The address is live instantly — no DNS setup is needed for addresses on the Spjallbox domain.
Add as many addresses as you like: sales@, support@, billing@ — each with its own signature and team.
2. Receiving mail
Addresses on the Spjallbox domain receive mail automatically — nothing else to do. Addresses on your own domain (see next section) need forwarding: once you create one, a dedicated receiving address appears that you forward mail to, so it lands as a case.
Managing mailboxes
- Default address — replies from automations and other systems use this address unless told otherwise.
- Team the address routes to — send a specific address automatically to the right team (e.g. billing@ to the finance team).
- Brand (widget) — if you run more than one brand, an address can be tied to a specific one or shared across all.
- Signature — a personal signature with variables like {{nafn}} (name), {{starfsheiti}} (job title), {{simi}} (phone) and {{fyrirtaeki}} (company), filled in automatically.
3. Your own domain (optional)
Want to send from your own domain (e.g. @company.com) instead of the Spjallbox domain? Go to "Custom sending domains" near the bottom of the page.
- 1
Register the domain
Enter your domain (e.g. company.com) and click "Add your own domain".
- 2
Add the DNS records
The system shows you CNAME records to add to your domain’s DNS zone with your registrar. This proves ownership and enables DKIM/SPF signing.
- 3
Verify the connection
Click "Check verification" once the records have propagated (can take from a few minutes up to a few hours).
- 4
Add an address on the domain
As soon as the domain is verified, it appears as an option when you add a new address.
Don’t forget forwarding
An address on your own domain can send right away, but to RECEIVE mail you need to forward email to the receiving address shown next to it. Without forwarding, customer replies won’t show up in the inbox.
Optional: use your own address as the reply-to address
If you’ve already set up forwarding from your own address (not just the receiving address), you can enable "Use this address as the reply-to address" so customer replies go straight there. Only turn this on once forwarding is confirmed working — otherwise replies get lost.
Branding in emails
The logo and colour shown in emails from your team are set under Settings → Branding → Email branding, available regardless of your plan. Each brand (widget) can have its own branding, or inherit the company’s shared one.
Do I need my own domain to get started?+
No. An address on the Spjallbox domain works instantly and is a perfectly good starting point for most companies.
How long does DNS verification take?+
Usually a few minutes, but it can take up to 24 hours depending on your DNS provider.
Can I delete the default address?+
Not directly — first set a different address as default, then the old one can be deleted.
